As a small voluntary organisation who are self-funding Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay rely on the goodwill of others to enable us to support our members, all of whom are brain injury survivors.
As our planned fundraising events were cancelled due to Covid 19, it is with enormous thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, Morecambe Bay Foundation Emergency Response Fund and Lancashire Covid19 Community Fund, that we are able to continue supporting our members through our Virtual Buddy Service. Loneliness and isolation must never be under-estimated, and it is now, more than ever, that our members, their families and carers need our support.
Our volunteers have buddied up with members of the group to provide regular virtual catch ups to make sure that all is well both physically and mentally.
Our Virtual Buddy Service offers our members regular support through the use of phones, ipads and tablets. Here is a snapshot of some of the things we offer our members:
Friendly Chats using the phone, social media apps and zoom
Help with goal setting to stay motivated by sharing daily updates through text, videos and photos on our whatsapp group, facebook page and website blog
Encouraging participation in our virtual gym sessions with https://www.facebook.com/315healthclub/
Sharing recipe ideas and encouraging healthy eating routines
Help with any benefits or health issues that may arise
Ensuring our members are aware and understand the latest Covid 19 guidelines
Providing washable masks for all of our members
Virtual Horticulture by supporting our members to try and grow at home and also keep in touch with our virtual allotment updates
Partnering with other services to access other support
A huge thank you goes to all of our volunteers for helping us to stay connected with our group, because without you, none of this would be possible. To https://www.lancaster.gov.uk/ and https://morecambebay.foodbank.org.uk/ for providing weekly food parcels to our most vulnerable members. You have been a tremendous source of support and on behalf of all of our members a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped to make it happen.
A massive thank you to all those other organisations and individuals who have reached out to support us including The Christopher Robins Charitable Trust, https://www.alberthunttrust.org.uk/ , Magic Little Grants, Silverdale Ukelele Players Group, Lancaster Community Fund, John’s Head Shave and many individual donations.
If you are interested in volunteering, making a donation or fundraising on our behalf we would love to hear from you either by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or go to our website http://www.headwaylancaster.com/contact-us/
